They followed with the critically acclaimed A Knife in Your Hand in 2021, featuring powerhouse drummer Tony Machete, who took their sound to an even harder, more primal edge. Along the way, SLOKS' fierce dedication to gritty garage rock earned them spots on two compilations: Mandinga Records' You Didn’t Think We Could Take It! Vol 2, a tribute to Subsonics, and Bomb Your Brain Vol 2 on Pigmè Records. In 2023, SLOKS evolved once more with a new lineup that introduced Rudy “Red” Valentine (Barsexuals, Los Mofongos) on vocals, bringing an explosive energy and unfiltered edge to their performances. They also added guitarist Massimo Scocca (Lame, Two Bo’s Maniacs) for a double-guitar assault that amplifies their signature sound. The current lineup—featuring Tony Machete on drums, Buddy Fuzz on guitar, Scocca on guitar, and Valentine on vocals—recorded 13 new tracks at Swampland Studio in Toulouse, France, under the production of Lo Spider (Blew-Up!, Destination Lonely, Dividers).<figure id="figure-nvc5db8qrfm3h8xkof"><img id="nvc5db8qrfm3h8xkof" src="https://cdn.durable.co/covers/2e7sx62UGmhbUQUiK3mzCFrouFpk3LgyGdYtf4d9AXMp0KL64wOGwg1Ya4oIMZfH.jpg" alt="" title="" class="object-cover bg-gray-100 rounded-sm md:rounded-md lg:rounded-lg" style="aspect-ratio: 1/1; object-position: center center;" data-corners="default" data-aspect="1:1" data-caption="" data-positionx="undefined" data-positiony="undefined" data-fullwidth="false" data-mce-src="https://cdn.durable.co/covers/2e7sx62UGmhbUQUiK3mzCFrouFpk3LgyGdYtf4d9AXMp0KL64wOGwg1Ya4oIMZfH.jpg" data-mce-style="aspect-ratio: 1/1; object-position: center center;"></figure>The title video track, <a data-mce-href="https://youtu.be/1rf43e0dRkU?feature=shared" href="https://youtu.be/1rf43e0dRkU?feature=shared" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“VIPER,” </a>is a blistering introduction to the album, embodying everything SLOKS fans have come to expect: raw, relentless garage punk energy, wild vocals, and a beat that won’t quit. Instead of straightforward cover versions, The Routes have carefully deconstructed 12 of Joy Division’s classic tracks—drawing subtle inspiration from the original melodies and rhythms to craft something wholly unique. The result? A head-spinning collection of 60s surf guitar instrumentals that pay homage to the post-punk legends while transforming their songs into a sonic wave of reverb-drenched, retro surf rock.<figure id="figure-yblsmelrfam2ig3vbe"><img id="yblsmelrfam2ig3vbe" src="https://cdn.durable.co/blocks/1axBJUQTHZFhCqKT2jFBksxCA9SzjJv0PzOvitPJVyO4UPwCo4HWHSmIfhTZ8HOx.jpg" alt="Half length portrait of trendy female millennial in electronic spectacles looking at camera during time for listening audio book and walk in metropolitan downtown, generation z in earphones" title="Half length portrait of trendy female millennial in electronic spectacles looking at camera during time for listening audio book and walk in metropolitan downtown, generation z in earphones" class="object-cover bg-gray-100 rounded-sm md:rounded-md lg:rounded-lg" style="aspect-ratio: 1/1; object-position: center center;" data-corners="default" data-aspect="1:1" data-caption="" data-positionx="undefined" data-positiony="undefined" data-fullwidth="false" data-mce-src="https://cdn.durable.co/blocks/1axBJUQTHZFhCqKT2jFBksxCA9SzjJv0PzOvitPJVyO4UPwCo4HWHSmIfhTZ8HOx.jpg" data-mce-style="aspect-ratio: 1/1; object-position: center center;"></figure>Fans can expect beloved Joy Division tracks like "A Means to an End" and "Ice Age" to get a full-on 60s drag race soundtrack treatment, while "Transmission" channels The Astronauts’ timeless sound, and "Digital" morphs into a beach party anthem. The album marks a bold new chapter in the artist’s career as he embraces the persona of a rock 'n' roll cult guru, delivering a 28-track opus that blends nostalgic sounds with experimental flair.Danger Girl captures the rebellious spirit of the album, featuring bold lyrics like, "I'm always a girl on the edge... I don't go with the flow of what's neat and tidy," with a nod to 90s mindset and a refusal to conform.
